Microsoft Access Database and Professional Poster
Each student develops a database project that incorporates tables, queries, and forms. At minimum, the database must include at least one table, at least one query, and at least one form. Pick a topic and develop a poster summarizing the research question, workflow, database design, and findings of quality worthy for presentation at a national conference such as for the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). Keep in mind the general guidelines for good project management: 1. Define the problem and question. State a hypothesis. 2. Methodology. Create an outline of the procedures required to process the data, create a logical sequence of steps to be performed, and list all of the data required for each step. 3. Collect Data. Create an inventory of data needed for the project. 4. Be sure to continuously back up your work. 5. Analysis and accuracy assessment. Often you find that after you start the project there is a need to revise the procedures that were originally intended. Once the analysis is complete, you should evaluate the accuracy and validity of the results. 6. Presentation. The results need to be presented in a format suitable for the audience. Carefully organize the poster described below as an electronic file only. General Project Rules 1) Create a professional poster summarizing the research question, workflow, database design, and findings of quality worthy for presentation at a national conference. State the sources for your initial table(s). List the important processes that you used in the project (that is, describe your queries, special functions, forms, macros, and/or scripts and particularly your outputs). In other words, how did your project add value to the raw data with which you started? Your poster should include one or more tables summarizing the data, one or more graphical outputs directly from your database, and a clear explanation of the workflow.
